Dubplate:
Das Dubplate ist eine spezielle Schallplatte, die u. a. von DJs verwendet wird und als Einzelstück oder in sehr geringen Stückzahlen gefertigt wird.
Ursprünglich gab es nur Lack-Dubplates. Dieses Dubplate besteht aus einer dünnen Aluminiumplatte, die mit Acetat beschichtet ist, in welches das Audiomaterial geschnitten wird. Ein Lack-Dubplate hat eine begrenzte Lebensdauer, je nach Nutzung/Abnutzung. Mittlerweile gibt es auch Vinyl-Dubplates. Dieses ist eine echte langlebige Vinyl-Schallplatte, die sich bei professioneller Herstellung nicht von gepresstem Vinyl unterscheidet. Im Gegensatz zu Lack-Dubplates nutzt sich die Platte durch mehrfachen Gebrauch wesentlich weniger ab.

Der Name ist zusammengesetzt aus den Wörtern dub (siehe Dub) und plate (deutsch: Platte, Scheibe, Blech). In Deutschland sind die Formen "die Dubplate" und "der Dubplate" auch gebräuchlich. Seltener gebrauchte Synonyme sind: Plate, One-Off (deutsch: einmalig) und Softwax (deutsch: weiches Wachs). Die getrennt geschriebenen Varianten Dub Plate und Dub-Plate werden auch verwendet.

Dub
Dub bezeichnet im allgemeinen ein Genre der Musik, in welchem zumeist bestehende Instrumentalstücke neu aufgenommen werden, wobei besonders Wert auf die Produktion, das sog. Mixing oder auch Dubbing, gelegt wird. Hierbei wird das ursprüngliche Musikstück mit Reverb, Delay und anderen Effekten verziert, und partiell auf Percussion und Bass reduziert. Die Wurzeln des Dub reichen bis in die 60er JAhre zurück, als Osbourne Ruddock (King Tubby) Pionierarbeit in Richtung Dub leistete und sich als einer der ersten überhaupt mit dem Gedanken auseinandersetzte, das Tonstudio als Instrument zu nutzen.
Das Wort Dub wird auch häufig als Abkürzung für Dubplate benutzt.
