Words like genius and prodigy are quick to get chucked around the scene, but in the case of emerging Congolese / Austrian producer Kimyan Law, it’s an entirely accurate representation of the artist. At the tender age of 19 he is set to make waves in the shape of double-sided single, Run Ames (feat. Robert Manos) / Eclairage via Blu Mar Ten Music. Both tracks are taken from his remarkable forthcoming debut album Coeur Calme, which is scheduled to follow in November.
Its clear from the off that Kimyan Law is a master of lushly evocative soundscapes and chromatic clusters of sound. Run Ames shows off his drum & bass roots with rattling drum fills and rhythmic shifts, layered perfectly over Robert Manos haunting vocal.
With Eclairage, Law once again showcases his well-versed production skills, pushing stylistic boundaries with an atmospheric arrangement of unfamiliar craft. Textured synths give way to organic bass beats and rich instrumentation, all expertly intertwined with a competence that belies a producer of his age, rounding off an excellent introductory release.
For someone so young, Kimyan Laws music is also steeped in history. The son of a Congolese father and Austrian mother, he grew up in Vienna and after turning to music in his childhood, hasnt looked back since. His African roots continue to play a huge part in his music and when incorporated within a high-tech, production set up, help create cuts of masterful imagery and vivid colour.
